Fashion photographer Harpreet Bachher believes being photogenic is a state of mind.“It’s all about how comfortable you are with who is shooting you,” he says.Photography beckoned him about 10 years ago.Following which he started Studio 27 degrees.Calling a warm and friendly smile the greatest asset one can have, he adds, “It’s just a matter of uncovering your photogenic side and that usually happens over coffee, a chat and music. So if you thought you weren’t photogenic, perhaps you haven’t met the right photographer.”

‘A living legend’

The drama began the moment we reached this attractive 65-year-old dancing legend’s place. We got hundreds of dramatic images. Her elegance and poise blended beautifully with the expressions and portrayals on stage and by the end of the day, we understood why she was a living legend.

‘He is quite the dream in real life’
Rana became a craze after Dum Maaro Dum. As he strutted into the studio, we were making a bedroom set for a shot. It took him three hours to get down to work, as he was busy charming the fairer section of my staff and all those who had accompanied Rana, who as it turned out, is quite the dream in real life too.

‘Vir Das is seriously funny'
Vir Das is seriously funny. When it came down to shooting him, the angle had to be funny too. Perched on a height, I shot Vir with a distortion wide-angle lens that gave him a cartoonish feel. The fabulous actor, that he is, he made sure his expression matched every bit of the feel. The rest is Photoshop history.

‘Personifies his raw sex appeal’
I shot this picture ten years ago in the rugged locales of Jaisalmer. I was a 21-year-old nervous photographer shooting on film since digital cameras hadn’t arrived. This shot where AB descended into waist deep water best personifies his raw sex appeal. A month later, we cross-processed (cross processing is a colouring technique for film transparencies) the images in the lab and I was delighted to see this shot turn out so well. In these days of instant results young photographers have no clue what it is like to wait for the film results and the excitement of a good image. It’s a lost delight.

‘She is completely at ease’
She is one of the most genuine and beautiful actresses and also one of my best friends. When a chance for a makeover shoot popped up, I was excited. She’s lovely, soft-spoken and completely at ease with herself. The child-like innocent aura that surrounds her magically shows up, and the camera never lies.
