Anupam Kher talks about success of Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, boycott trends: 'Jab picture aachi hai toh...'
Actor Anupam Kher reacted to boycott trends against Pathaan and said nothing can sabotage a good film. He also said that 'film audience' never boycotted cinema.
Actor Anupam Kher recently opened up about the failure of boycott trends against Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan as the film continue to rule the box office. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film made a business of ₹832.2 crore worldwide in just 12 days. Talking about the film, Anupam said people have watched it even in vengeance. Pathaan landed in a controversy after the release of the film's first song Besharam Rang last year. It received criticism from many due to Deepika's outfits, including her saffron bikini. Some people found the song objectionable and protested against it for allegedly hurting their religious sentiments. The film also faced a boycott trend on social media.
Talking about how Pathaan touched success beyond all expectations, Anupam was quoted by DNA saying, “Aap trend dekh ke thodi picture dekhne jaoge. Koi bhi nahi jaata trend padh ke. Agar aapko trailer aacha laga toh aap jayege film dekhne. Jab pitcute aachi hai toh duniya ki koi takat nahi rok sakti. Log toh vengeance se jaate hai ki 'mujhe toh dekhni hai film' (No one gets influenced to watch a film by a trend. If you liked the trailer of the film, you want to watch it. If the film is well-made, no one has the power to sabotage it. People even go for the film with a feeling of vengeance against the hate trend).”
“The film audience never boycotted cinema. We had gone through the Covid pandemic, there was a lockdown, and people were asked to sit in their houses. This has happened after 100 years or so. During this phase, audiences look out for other means of entertainment. The OTT platforms saw a boost, and they started watching the films with their ease. To bring them (audiences) out of fear takes some time,” he added.
Anupam will be next seen in the film Shiv Shastri Balboa. It also features Neena Gupta, Nargis Fakhri, and Sharib Hashmi in important roles. Directed by Ajay Venugopalan, it is backed by Kishore Varieth. It will hit the theatres on February 10.
