Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, industrialist Sunjay Kapur dies of heart attack at 53 while playing polo
Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, passes away suddenly while playing polo. He was previously married to Karisma Kapoor.
Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sunjay Kapur has died of heart attack at 53. Kapur, the Chairman of auto components firm Sona Comstar, suffered a heart attack while he was in the middle of a polo match, according to reports.

As per an India Today report, Sunjay fell ill while he was playing polo. Sona Comstar said in a statement said, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Sunjay J Kapur Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar, following a sudden heart attack in England, UK, on 12th June 2025, at the age of 53."
Suhel Seth also shared a condolence message on Twitter. “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur : he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar …Om Shanti,” he wrote.

Educated in India, the UK, and the US, he was a passionate entrepreneur and the first Indian Global Chairman of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization. A passionate fitness and sport enthusiast and a learner for life, he worked to make polo more accessible beyond its traditional roots. Mr Kapur’s enduring commitment to excellence, service, and community leaves a lasting legacy.

Incidentally, Kapur's last social media post was just hours ago when he expressed grief at the death of Air India passengers who died in the crash on Thursday afternoon.
Recently, Sunjay Kapur, the chairman of Sona Comstar, an automotive systems manufacturer, was elected as the chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) northern region. He aimed to steer CII northern region across seven states—Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and three Union territories—Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
“Our strategic roadmap focuses on six key priority areas to drive industrial growth and policy reforms — policy advocacy, growth and inclusiveness, strengthening MSMEs, membership engagement, skill development, and innovation and sustainability. A key imperative is to fortify the connection between MSMEs, startups, and academia, creating a synergy that amplifies the region’s inherent strengths and unlocks new opportunities for economic growth,” Kapur had said.
Sunjay and Karisma tied the knot in 2003 and their divorce was finalised in June 2016. The Delhi high court advised the couple to explore the possibility of a settlement when they wanted a divorce in 2005. Karisma moved out of his house in Delhi in 2010 to Mumbai, which was when her younger son Kiaan was born. In 2014, the two decided to end their marriage and filed for divorce.
