On a possible spin-off
In the interview with India Today, when Shiva Rajkumar was asked about the reaction to Jailer and if he is ready to star in a spin-off around his character, the actor said, “I don’t mind. I really don’t know how it works. Nelson Dilipkumar should create and have that idea, because, after the success of Jailer, he has got more responsibility for his next film. But, there was one sequence, which was supposed to be shot in the prison, but then later he said, ‘Not necessary sir’. So, I don’t know what will happen about that. If it is on the same line, then I don’t mind at all. Having said that, Nelson is very good at portraying such grey characters.”
Meanwhile, the actor was all smiles when asked about the reception of his performance in the film. He played a gangster named Narasimha in the film, who is Rajinikanth's character Tiger's friend. The actor said that he never expected such a response. "Everybody is surprised. People's reaction we don't know what they take. Some magic is there... where the director and music director has created, as well as the presence," he said.
Jailer, which was directed by Nelson, was released worldwide on August 10 and crossed the ₹600 crore mark worldwide. It is also the second fastest Tamil movie to enter the ₹600 crore club after Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer 2.0, which was released in 2018. Jailer starred Vasanth Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Ramya Krishnan and Vinayakan in key roles. Jackie Shroff and veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal also make special appearances in the film. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film's music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
