Defender Jose Gimenez scored in the 89th minute to give Uruguay a deserved win against Egypt in Ekaterinburg. The win means the South Americans now have three points in Group A along with Russia who beat Saudi Arabia on the opening day of the FIFA World Cup. Uruguay were by far the better side in their match, creating many clear-cut goal scoring opportunities. Barcelona forward Luis Suarez could have had an htatrick if luck was on his side. Egypt, even though were the second best team could count themselves unlucky not to come away with anything in the match.
