Actress Bidisha Bezbaruah’s husband denied bail by Gurgaon court

He was arrested after the victim’s father alleged that he had forced Bidisha to commit suicide as the accused continued to have an extra marital affair with a woman.

A Gurgaon court on Wednesday denied bail to Nisheeth Jha, the husband of Assamese actress Bidisha Bezbaruah, who had committed suicide in her Sushant Lok flat on July 17. Jha, who was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide on the complaint of the victim’s father was denied bail by the district court, which upheld the plea of the public prosecutor that neither the charge sheet had been filed in the case nor the statements of the witnesses had been recorded by the police.

The prosecution contended that giving bail to the accused at this stage could have an impact on the bearing of the case, which was upheld by the court. It also stated that the accused could influence the witnesses if he was granted bail, and this being a sensitive matter should be given important consideration.

It may be recalled that Bidhisha, who has had a love marriage with Jha despite opposition from her parents worked with Jha in an advertising major in Delhi, where they entered into a relationship. After the couple met in Delhi, Jha moved to Mumbai for a year but they continued their relationship and later got married.

Prior to he death, Jha remained away in Mumbai for over 10 days and refused to come to Gurgaon where the couple had shifted despite her insistence. On the ill fated day, Bidisha called up his father and asked him to arrange for divorce before she leapt to death from the 9th floor apartment in Sushant Lok.
