According to reports, the accused Rahul Sen, a salesman in a watch shop, had sexually assaulted the victim, a 12-year-old Naga girl on several occasions in a village about 360 km northeast of the capital Kohima.

The matter came to light recently when the victim, a class IV student, complained of ill health and was taken to a hospital. A medical check up confirmed rape.

Once the news spread, local residents nabbed the accused and thrashed him. He was paraded naked and tied to an advertisement board from where he was rescued by the police and taken into custody.
