Amid the cyclone alert, officials at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla at Gujarat's Kutch have started shifting people from low-lying areas to temporary shelters. Public Relations Officer of Deendayal Port Authority Om Prakash said that six ships have left the port and 11 more will be departing on Monday. He added that port officials and ship owners have also been asked to remain alert.

Cyclone Biparjoy likely to hit Kutch on June 15; schools shut in coastal areas
Cyclone Biparjoy (pronounced as Biporjoy) has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over the eastcentral Arabian Sea, raising concerns for the Gujarat coast. The storm, which has been gradually moving northwards at a speed of 5 kmph, is centred approximately 340 km southwest of Porbandar and is expected to make landfall on the Kutch coast on June 15, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cyclone is expected to continue its northward trajectory until the morning of June 14 and subsequently veer northeastwards, crossing the Saurashtra & Kutch region and the adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi in Kutch and Karachi (Pakistan), near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by noon on June 15, according to IMD’s news bulletin on Monday.

Kutch collector Amit Arora on Cyclone Biparjoy told PTI, “Teams have been deployed to prevent any casualties. Biparjoy was supercharged twice by the unusually warm Arabian Sea: Experts
Cyclone Biparjoy, which is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on Thursday, underwent rapid intensification twice during its lifecycle after it developed on June 7, experts said on Monday.
According to data with the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC), between June 6-7, Biparjoy’s wind speed increased by 84 kmph from 55 kmph to 139 kmph and between June 9-10, its wind speed increased by 75 kmph from 120 kmph to 195 kmph.

Severe cyclone to hit India's west coast, south Pakistan on Thursday
A storm off India's west coast has strengthened to become a powerful cyclone, which could hit India's western state of Gujarat and southern parts of Pakistan this week, the weather department said.
The cyclone, named Biparjoy, is expected to make landfall on Thursday afternoon between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 km per hour, gusting up to 150 km per hour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
The weather office has advised fishing communities to halt operations and the evacuation of people from the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat.

Officials in coastal Devbhumi Dwarka said around 1,300 people have been shifted to safer places so far in this regard.
In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the 'extremely severe cyclonic storm' was very likely to move north-northeast and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by the noon of June 15 as a 'very severe cyclonic storm' with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kilometres per hours (kmph) gusting to 150 kmph.

NCEMA affirms team's ongoing efforts to monitor developments in weather condition
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has organised a series of meetings of the Joint Assessment Team handling weather and tropical conditions, as part of its efforts to monitor and evaluate the tropical conditions in the UAE and its possible impact on the country.
Held in the presence of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the meetings also reviewed the preparedness of competent authorities to deal with possible emergencies.
Through its ongoing monitoring operations, NCM affirmed that tropical cyclone Biparjoy has been reclassified as Cat-2, as the wind speed around the centre grew to a range of 165 to 175 km/h. It is expected to continue moving north and northeast towards the India-Pakistan coast, and will have no impact on the UAE over the next five days, NCM assured.

Several parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra receive rains
Several parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra received rains on Sunday night, an IMD official said.
Mumbai city as well as coastal parts of the state also witnessed strong winds as the intensity of cyclone Biparjoy increased bringing rains to the western parts of the state.
Strong winds also affected the air quality and visibility due to dust particles. Some trees fell in parts of Mumbai due to gusty winds, said a civic official.
Huge waves caught tourists in Ganpatipule town in the coastal Ratnagiri district by surprise. The waves hit the beach with a strong current, scaring away the tourists. There was no serious injury reported in the incident.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Pakistan has put the authorities concerned on high alert as Cyclone Biparjoy is gaining strength and has now turned into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm (ESCS), Pakistan-based Geo News reported. It is likely to affect Sindh's coastal regions on June 13.
The NDMA in its update on Sunday said that the cyclone might intensify in the next 24 hours and is likely to affect the south and south-eastern regions of Sindh on Tuesday. According to NDMA, the cyclone can cause strong winds, torrential rains and floods in coastal regions of the province, according to Geo News report.

People being shifted to temporary shelters amid Cyclone alert
Amid the cyclone alert in the state of Gujarat, officials at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla at Gujarat's Kutch have started shifting people from low-lying areas to temporary shelters.
They have been asked to be on alert in case of any emergency situation.
Om Prakash, the Public Relations Officer of Deendayal Port Authority, in Gujarat's Kandla said that six ships have left the port and 11 more will be departing tomorrow.
"Six ships left the port today and 11 more ships will depart tomorrow. Port officials and ship owners have been asked to remain alert. Those staying in low-lying areas of Kandla are being moved to temporary shelters in Gandhidham," the PRO said.
