Delhi election results | Highlights: In a historic victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party has come to power in the national capital after 27 years, securing 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India. The incumbent Aam Admi Party managed to secure 22 seats but fell short of the majority.

BJP leader Parvesh Verma defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in a high-stakes battle. AAP leader and Delhi chief minister Atishi, however, managed to win the Kalkaji seat against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri. She resigned from her position as chief minister on Sunday.

Lt Governor V K Saxena has also issued an order to dissolve the legislative assembly effective immediately. BJP's winning candidates Parvesh Verma and Kailash Gahlot also visited the Raj Niwas to meet the Lt Governor.

BJP supporters have been celebrating the result in the city, with prime minister Narendra Modi giving an address at the BJP headquarters to congratulate party workers.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Tokas, who had contested from the RK Puram constituency emphasized that the Congress will get more seats than expected.
