Lok Sabha Secretariat seeks Rahul Gandhi’s response to privilege notices over Amit Shah remarks by August 28
The notice by BJP's Thakur alleged alleged that Rahul Gandhi levelled "grave allegations" against Amit Shah without giving advance notice under Rule 353.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has sought a response from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over two notices alleging breach of privilege and contempt of the House. This follows notices filed by BJP MPs over the Congress leader's remarks against Union home minister Amit Shah during a debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
Rahul has been asked to submit his response by August 28.

BJP's Sanjay Jaiswal shared a copy of the Lok Sabha secretariat's communication to Gandhi in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Sharing the letter, Jaiswal said in the post, "I had submitted a notice regarding a breach of privilege concerning the objectionable remarks made by Rahul Gandhi against the Hon'ble Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, as these comments violated the dignity of the Member of Parliament (Shah) and decorum of Parliament."
"I am grateful to the Hon'ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha for taking cognisance of my notice and referring the matter to the Privileges Committee. The committee has granted Rahul Gandhi an opportunity to submit his explanation by August 28," he added.
"I am fully confident that the Committee will take appropriate action in this matter to ensure that no Member of Parliament attempts to undermine the dignity and decorum of the House in the future," Jaiswal emphasised in the post.

What the letter said
In a letter dated August 14, Joint Secretary H Ram Prakash noted that the notices were submitted by BJP MPs Anurag Singh Thakur and Sanjay Jaiswal.
The notice by Thakur, dated July 30, 2026, alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi used "unparliamentary and derogatory language" and levelled "grave allegations" against the home minister without giving advance notice under Rule 353 during the debate.
Furthermore, in a letter by Jaiswal, dated July 29, 2026, the MP requested that cognisance should be taken of the "alleged use of unparliamentary expressions" by Rahul Gandhi against Amit Shah.
"I am directed to forward herewith a copy each of the notices, dated 29 July, 2026 and 30 July, 2026 of question of breach of privilege given by Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, MP and Anurag Singh Thakur, MP respectively against your goodself on the above subject," the letter by the joint secretary of the privileges committee of the Lok Sabha said.
"I am, therefore, to request you kindly to furnish your reply/comments in the matter by 28 August, 2026 for the kind consideration of the Hon'ble Speaker, Lok Sabha," it added.

Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026
The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, passed by both houses of Parliament after an elaborate debate, has now become a law.
This came after Delhi, for weeks, witnessed protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over alleged examination irregularities, including the NEET paper leak. The protesters also demanded the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who resigned from the post on July 25.
