The Allahabad high court acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar on Thursday in the double murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008.
The court ordered for the immediate release of the dentist couple, who were serving life sentence in Ghaziabad’s Dasna Jail after being convicted by a special CBI court in 2013.
The HC bench said the parents are being given the benefit of doubt as the CBI failed to provide reasonable evidence against them.
Many on Twitter, including politicians and journalists, reacted to the HC verdict.
While some questioned the CBI investigation, others welcomed the judgment.
Don’t know who killed #Arushi & will probably never know but what I do know is the police made a total dogs breakfast of the investigation.— Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) October 12, 2017
The initial botchup by UP cops means Talwars spent years in jail without direct evidence against them & we will never know who killed Arushi— Aman Sharma (@AmanKayamHai_ET) October 12, 2017
Some were baffled by one main question: who killed Arushi?
We will probably never know Who killed Arushi Talwar and that is tragic.— Sunanda Vashisht (@sunandavashisht) October 12, 2017
