India Pakistan news highlights: Over 50 Pakistani drones shot down by air defence array across LoC

China's foreign ministry on Thursday said that it was "not familiar with the matter" when asked whether Chinese jets were involved in the India-Pakistan conflict after India hit Pakistan and PoK with missiles the day before, reports Reuters

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian was speaking at a regular media briefing in Beijing.

In a major escalation, Pakistan attempted to target multiple military installations across Northern and Western India—including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj—using drones and missiles.

However, all attempted strikes were successfully neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.

Authorities are now recovering debris from several locations, providing concrete evidence of the cross-border attacks.

The Vice Principal of Jamia Zia-ul-Uloom in Poonch said, "Shelling continued throughout the day yesterday, impacting the entire district. In the past, our city remained largely untouched during such escalations. But this time, we have suffered heavy casualties. Even religious structures have not been spared. In this very building, our Ustaad lost his life in the shelling. His six children were also present at the time."

Jio Studios, a unit of Reliance Industries, has withdrawn its trademark application for Operation Sindoor after facing major backlash online.

In a statement they said, “Reliance Industries has no intention of trademarking Operation Sindoor, a phrase which is now a part of the national consciousness as an evocative symbol of Indian bravery.”

The US consulate  in Lahore has directed its staff to take shelter in place amid drone activity.

As per the statement, the Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting with Secretaries of various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India on Thursday to review national preparedness and inter-ministerial coordination in light of recent developments concerning national security.

During the meeting, PM Modi stressed the need for seamless coordination among ministries and agencies to uphold operational continuity and institutional resilience.

He reviewed the planning and preparation by ministries to deal with the current situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a high-level meeting with top officials in New Delhi. This meeting comes hours after an all-party meeting to brief political parties on India's Operation Sindoor.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said India's Operation Sindoor, the precision strike launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack was targeted and measured.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday apprised leaders of political parties about the Operation Sindoor, India’s military action against terror camps in Pakistan saying that it is an “ongoing operation” and a separate presentation on the details of the exercise cannot be shared at the moment.

Singh was chairing the all party meeting in Parliament that was called to brief leaders of major political parties about the operation that was carried out at nine places in Pakistan and PoK.

The defence minister said that at least 100 terrorists were killed in Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor. Read more.

After projectile debris was found in an open field in a border village of Amritsar, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said, "The Army has been called here. We have to cooperate with the Army and the Administration. We are ready for this (to face the ceasefire violation by Pakistan). India only took action on terror sites in Pakistan, but look what they (Pakistan) have done." (ANI)

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, after attending an all-party meeting called by the government on Operation Sindoor on Thursday, said he demanded that a global campaign should be launched against The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. He also demanded action targeting Pakistan's already beleaguered economy by pushing the country into the FATF grey list.

"I have complimented our armed forces and the government for Operation Sindoor. I also suggested that we should run a global campaign against The Resistance Front (TRF). I also suggested that the government should request the USA to designate it (TRF) as a terrorist organisation. We should also make efforts to grey-list Pakistan in FATF," he said after the meeting. Amid tension between India and Pakistan following the targeted strikes on terror camps and Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, panic gripped residents of Punjab’s border district of Amritsar when they heard explosions and saw lights flashing in the sky around 1am on Thursday followed by a power shutdown. Debris of what appeared to be missiles was recovered from fields in Jethuwal, Makhan Windi and Pandher on the city’s outskirts in the morning.

“There was panic all around. After the explosion, a part of the missile fell in a field at Jethuwal, while debris was found scattered over houses also. Villagers informed the police who arrived and took the debris away,” said Parkash Singh, a resident of the village. Read more.

Kiren Rijiju gave details about what was discussed during the all-party meeting and said that the leaders were briefed about Operation Sindoor.

"The meeting was conducted under the supervision of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Today's was a serious topic, so all the parties put forth their points seriously. Rajnath Singh briefed all the leaders about Operation Sindoor, he told everyone about the current situation and the government's intentions. Following that, all the political leaders put forth their points and gave some suggestions too. I believe that all the leaders showed maturity during the meeting," said Kiren Rijiju after the all-party meeting.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told leaders who attended the all-party meeting that at least 100 terrorists were killed in Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor, reported PTI citing unnamed sources.

Several houses severely damaged in unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in a border village under the Kashmir division, reported ANI. On destruction due to ceasefire violation by Pakistan, a civilian living along the border, said, " We came outside when we heard sounds of shelling around 3 am today. There is only smoke and damage here now...We want peace."

After the all-party meeting concluded, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that all the parties showed maturity during the meeting. he also said that there were some suggestions, some Members of Parliament put forth their concerns, and said we must remain vigilant.

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta hailed 'Operation Sindoor' and said that the Indian government gave a befitting reply to Pakistan for supporting terrorism.

"Pakistan had understood that the Modi government and Indian Armed Forces gave a befitting reply to them for the crimes they did and spread terrorism in the country. If they continue to do so, then we will be compelled to take even bigger steps" she told PTI.

Union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, J P Nadda and Nirmala Sitharaman are among those attending the all-party meeting along with Opposition leaders such as Congress’ Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress’ Sandip Bandyopadhyay and DMK’s TR Baalu among others. Talking about Operation Sindoor and the all-party meet all-party meeting being held in Delhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha said that the operation was "necessary" after the Pahalgam attack.

"It was very necessary because of the unfortunate incident that happened in Pahalgam, in which we lost our people. After that, everyone is speaking in unison, and I believe it should be addressed collectively," he told PTI.

On the all-party meeting called by the government over Operation Sindoor, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal that all the parties will be made aware of how the operation took was conducted.

"PM Modi had called an all-party meeting prior to Operation Sindoor. In today's meeting, all the political parties will be informed about how Operation Sindoor was executed and what all happened. The parties will be made aware about how our armed forces showed exemplary valour during the operation," he said while talking to PTI.

United Nations General Assembly President Philemon Yang on Thursday said that he is "deeply concerned" about "escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan" and urged the two nations to exercise "maximum restraint".

"I am deeply concerned about the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan. I call for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation. I reiterate my condemnation of all terrorist attacks and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure. I firmly believe that dialogue and diplomatic solutions in line with the UN Charter and international law are the only ways to resolve differences and achieve lasting peace and stability," he said in the post on X.
