The ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) has given Vedic Broadcasting, a part of the Patanjali Group, the go-ahead to launch the channels, which will offer programmes translated from Hindi as well as those produced in the three languages.

An official in the I&B ministry said the channels have been given permission along with several others after due process.

The idea of offering programmes in languages other than Hindi, was mooted by the Yoga guru to connect with masses in the southern states and to introduce the “vast knowledge of ancient science and scriptures from the region” to audiences in other parts of the country, spokesperson for the Patanjali Group SK Tijarawala said. According to him, the group will now seek permission for starting similar channels in Malayalam, Odiya and Assamese.
