Reliance, Rolls-Royce partner to make engines for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme.
Reliance Industries and British aerospace major Rolls-Royce announced a partnership to develop and manufacture an engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme on Friday.
In a statement, the company announced plans to partner and offer capabilities for the design, development, delivering an indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

“As part of the partnership, Reliance and Rolls-Royce will explore the formation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex that will be a centre of excellence for power and propulsion technology in India,” the statement read.
The partnership will offer a proposition for joint development of the AMCA engine in India.
According to the statement, this aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Atmanirbhar Bharat" vision for the nation's defence ecosystem to deliver an indigenous engine to power India’s fighter jet programme.
"This marks a step towards realising the vision set out by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, for India’s defence ecosystem to deliver an indigenous engine to power the country’s fighter jet programme," it added.

Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited, said, “India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies. Our intent with Rolls-Royce is to combine their world-leading expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing, scale and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India.”
“Together, we aim to build an enduring national capability that can make India self-reliant and, over time, globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies. This is our contribution to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat,” he added.
Furthermore, Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO, Rolls-Royce plc, said, "I welcome the opportunity to join forces with Reliance Industries, bringing together our century-long heritage in advanced engineering and proven engine expertise with their homegrown leadership in Indian industry. Together, with our existing partnerships and capabilities in India, this marks a major milestone towards building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country."

Key highlights of the partnership
Joint development: Rolls-Royce will contribute its global engine leadership, while Reliance will provide its industrial strengths.
"By combining Rolls-Royce’s global leadership in engines with the established industrial strengths of Reliance, the Aero Gas Turbine Complex will build sovereign, end-to-end Indian capability across design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support. This will also unlock opportunities to explore wider collaborations across defence, civil aerospace, and new power and propulsion systems," the statement said.
‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision:
"The alliance will support India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision for technology indigenisation and help position the country as a global leader in advanced propulsion capabilities," it noted.
