At UNGA, Trump reiterates he ended India-Pakistan war: ‘Shehbaz thanked me for saving 30 million lives’
Trump, in his UNGA speech, reiterated that he helped end eight wars, including India-Pakistan in May 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday reiterated his claim that he stopped India and Pakistan from going into a full-fledged war in May 2025. “The Prime Minister of Pakistan, a terrific man, said that Donald Trump was responsible for saving 30 million lives, and probably many more than that,” Trump said at UNGA.

Trump has made the claimed several times in the past that he brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May 2025 after days of military escalations following India's Operation Sindoor against Pakistan in retaliation over Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilian were killed.
However, India has consistently denied the claim and maintained the ceasefire was agreed upon mutually between India and Pakistan and that no third-party was involved in the mediation.
In July, Trump renewed his claim on brokering the truce between India and Pakistan and said that the confrontation could have turned “nuclear” as 11 aircraft were shot down, and millions of people could have lost their lives. He added that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.
“Think of it, India and Pakistan. That war was raging. They were a week into it. Eleven planes were shot down, and that war was going to go nuclear,” he said.
He made similar remarks in April as well, saying that he saved 30 to 50 million lives. “I ended 8 wars, including India and Pakistan, so much so that the Prime Minister of Pakistan told me that I saved 30 to 50 million lives,” Trump said then.
Pakistan has in the past resonated Trump's claims as Pakistan Prime Minister a few months ago said that Islamabad will “forever remain grateful” to Trump for his “intervention” in the ceasefire with India. Sharif hailed Trump as a “man of peace”, claiming it was his “timely and decisive intervention” which had brought about the ceasefire on May 10, 2025, according to news agency PTI.
