The minister has quit, Congress sources said on Sunday even as Rajyalakshmi, who was assigned the School Education portfolio, was not available for confirmation of her resignation.

Elected from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency, Reddy, a strong contender for a birth in the Union cabinet, was absent during the swearing-in of the new Government at the Centre on Saturday over the denial and reportedly asked his wife to resign in protest.

The party had earlier made it clear that only one family member will be selected for ministerial birth either at the Centre or at the state level as there are many husband and wife pairs which contested and won the elections, the sources added.
