Apoorva's brush with infamy
Apoorva Lakhia has run into heavy weather with Abhishek Kapoor who insists that the idea for Mumbai Se Aaya... was filched.
Director Apoorva Lakhia might have run into heavy weather with Abhishek Kapoor over the idea of Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost since the latter insists that Lakhia pinched his idea.
But that hasn't stopped Lakhia from being gung ho about his first film as the director. Over to the man, who is all excited about his venture which is set to hit the screens on 22nd of August:
How was the experience of Mumbai Se...?
It was absolutely amazing, yaar. I would say that the team we had was really very good, and we worked very hard to ensure that the experience was really worthwhile.
What, in brief, is the story?
It is about a village in India, in remote India, which gets the boon of electricity. Then comes the character of Abhishek Bachchan who brings a gift along with him which changes their lives. To know what the gift is all about, you got to see the film.
Abhishek has had an ordinary run at the box office. But why did you wish to cast him?
I was always convinced, and so was my producer Vishal Nihalani the moment I narrated the story to him. In fact, it was Abhishek who rejected the script at the beginning. Then we waited for two years and finally got his consent.
What about Lara Dutta, your heroine?
Lara was simply mind-blowing. Mark my words. She is going to go really far as an actress. She is amazing, and at the same time really hard working. In fact, she was so good that we changed a couple of scenes so that we could have more of her in the film. Also, Abhishek and Lara became good friends during the making of the film and that chemistry is showing.
What other projects are you working on, and since you have worked in films in Hollywood, do you intend to make films abroad too?
I have been asked to do a film for AB Corp. I have been working on the script right now. I will do films wherever I get the right kind of job. It could be in India, or Honolulu.
