Bomb hurled at polling booth

Ahead of the commencement of polling in the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, unidentified persons targeted a polling booth with a petrol bomb on the outskirts of the city.

Ahead of the commencement of polling in the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, unidentified persons targeted a polling booth with a petrol bomb on the outskirts of the city.

The bomb was hurled towards the polling station set up inside a private school at Lal Bazar around 5 a.M but it exploded in the compound of the institute, the sources said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Groups of youth also pelted stones on various polling stations in uptown Srinagar last night following which police used teargas shells and batons to chase them away, the sources said.

Youth protesting against elections pelted stones at polling stations at Natipora, Channapora and Kralipora.

Police used batons to disperse protestors at Channapora and Kralipora and teargas shells at Natipora to restore order, the sources said.

No one was hurt in the clashes even though the protestors at Natipora damaged several private vehicles, the sources added.
