Captain of the Australian under-19 squad for two years, Haddin began his career in the Australian domestic cricket with the Mercantile Mutual Cup in 1997-98.

Haddin has modelled himself on great glovesmen like Allen Knott, Ian Healy and more recently Adam Gilchrist, to be a young and dynamic wicket-keeper batsman.

Within only three years from his burst onto the domestic scene, the right-hander impressed the national selectors for a well-deserved opportunity in the international arena.

Though a hard-hitting batsman and a confident stumper, one cannot be sure weather he would ever be able to surpass Gilchrist for the coveted place behind the stumps.
