THE LOCAL Congress leaders lauded Sonia Gandhi’s step to resign from the membership of Parliament and from the National Advisory Council. They said she has shown great courage.
As soon as the news of Sonia’s resignation reached the district Congress office, the local leaders started gathering at Tilak Hall, the district headquarters of the Congress Party.
Hundreds of party workers, raising slogans, took out a rally from Tilak Hall to main market area including Moolganj.
Many prominent leaders participated in the procession. They were city party president Abdul Manan, Gulab Singh Iqbal Ahmad, Santosh Tripathi, Manorama Shukla, Prakash Panday, Pushpa Saini, Jaichandra Singh.
President of Rahul Gandhi Fans Association called the step of Sonia Gandhi an ideal move and said that people in politics should learn from such great move.
In the mean time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders termed it as safety measure taken in advance by Sonia Gandhi. A press communiqué issued by media incharge Anoop Awasthi of the District BJP Committee said that hasty steps taken by Sonia Gandhi could not be termed as great or historic move.
Prominent among the BJP leaders were city president BJP (central) Rakesh Sonkar and Sunil Bajaj.
