DIG pays surprise visit to jail
FOLLOWING RECOVERY of some mobile phones inside the sensitive Ghazipur jail, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jails, DD Mishra, on Friday paid a surprise visit to the jail and returned empty-handed.No mobile phone was recovered from inside the jail,? FOLLOWING RECOVERY of some mobile phones inside the sensitive Ghazipur jail, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jails, DD Mishra, on Friday paid a surprise visit to the jail and returned empty-handed.
“No mobile phone was recovered from inside the jail,” Jail superintendent, Ghazipur AK Sinha told Hindustan Times on phone on Friday. He, however, admitted during the surprise raid conducted by the then District Magistrate Anita Maheshram and Superintendent of Police of Ghazipur, some mobile phones were recovered from some barracks inside the jail.
“But this time nothing objectionable was recovered,” Sinha said.It may be mentioned controversial legislator-cum-mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, his MP brother Afzal Ansari and their cousin, Aijaz Ansari, are lodged here for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mohammadabad legislator from BJP Krishnanad Rai on November 29.
Mishra who returned to Varanasi was not available for comments. It is alleged high-profile criminals lodged here wield considerable clout and the authorities don’t dare to touch them.
Meanwhile, the Ghazipur court on Friday fixed June 26 as next date of hearing for an application demanding implementation of the High Court order directing investigation into the murder of Krishnanand Rai by the CBI.
The application was filed by Ram Narayan, brother of slain Krishnanad Rai. It may be mentioned the Allahabad High Court recently ordered the State government to handover case of Rai’s murder to CBI.
