"We have lodged an FIR against Bose as asked by the Election Commission," West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer Basudev Bandyopadhyay told reporters at the state secretariat.
The FIR was filed after the EC took serious exception to the reported remarks by Bose that the CPI(M) activists would grab poll observers by their collars and take them to police stations.
The CEO said that FIR was filed under IPC sections 153 (giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 171c (undue influence at elections), 189 (threat of injury to public servants), 503 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
The FIR was filed at the Taltala police station of the city as per the order received from EC on Monday morning and as per the draft approved by it.
