Change attitudes
The armed forces need to change their attitude towards lady officers. One should remember that welfare of officers and their families is taken seriously in the armed forces. What makes the task difficult for women is the dilemma of balancing their duty towards the nation and responsibility towards their families.

This refers to the report Amarnath switches official (June 20). The controversy regarding the shivling has hurt the religious sentiments of crores of Hindus. The government should investigate the matter and reveal the truth. The shrine board should ensure that such tampering is not repeated.

Give them jobs
It is surprising that instead of jobs, Mulayam Singh is giving allowances to jobless graduates in UP (Eye on poll, Mulayam opens purse, June 17). Why doesn’t he offer jobs when there is a shortage of teachers? He is encouraging people not to work.
