In a major breakthrough, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Shivkuti police unearthed an illegal arms manufacturing unit and besides seizing several arms also arrested three persons engaged in the manufacturing of such weapons. The catch also included tools used in giving shape to such unauthorized weapons.

Police arrested Suresh Kumar resident of Kazipur, Naini, Shatrughan Yadav resident of Pipri, Kaushambi and Suresh Kumar Raidas, resident of Kurial, Chayankala, under Industrial Area police station.

The SSP Vijay Singh Meena told mediapersons that Suresh Kumar Raidas and Suresh Kumar were both notorious criminals and several criminal cases had been registered against them at Naini and Industrial Area police stations. Suresh Kumar's brother Shankar Lal was a history-sheeter under Industrial Area police station with over a dozen criminal cases registered against him at different police stations in Trans-Yamuna area.

'We are trying to find out the criminal history of Shatrughan Yadav who hails from Kaushambi,' informed the SSP.

The arrest came following tip-off to the cops that some persons were manufacturing arms in a dilapidated house near the Curzon Bridge.

Cops swung into action and managed to lay their hands on both men and material which earned them a reward of Rs 5,000 from the DIG Range Akhilesh Mehrotra. The seizure included one .315 bore country-made rifle and eight country-made pistols known in the local dialect as ''Katta'' besides several unfinished weapons that were still in the making.

Suresh Kumar and  Suresh Raidas were not first timers in this trade and had been arrested earlier under the same charges besides other offences, said the SSP.  The SOG team led by Manoj Raghuvanshi and Shivkuti team led by station officer Ashok Kumar Yadav, encircled the house with 17 of their colleagues and forced the criminals to surrender.
