'Indo-Bangla passport system under review'

The India-Bangladesh special passport system, meant for residents of Northeast to travel to the neighbouring country, is "under review".

The India-Bangladesh special passport system, meant for residents of Northeast to travel to the neighbouring country, is "under review", the government said on Wednesday.

"It (the passport system) is under review and it was felt that perhaps it is best to issue the same passport as is being issued for the rest of the country to travel to other countries," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters in New Delhi responding to a query about the system.

He said such type of passport is issued by various offices and not necessarily by regional passport officers.
