Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, who is National Conference candidate from Sonawar and Beerwah assembly segments in Srinagar, on Wednesday said that he plans to develop Sonawar into a "global example in tourism, public infrastructure and services".
Abdullah said that he has a comprehensive and holistic vision of development for Sonawar and would take the youth of the Sonawar on board in achieving the goals of employment generation, progress and economic growth. He stated this while addressing a meeting of NC legislators, party workers, youth activists and prominent social workers from various areas of Sonawar constituency at his residence here.
Abdullah had left his traditional seat in Ganderbal in south Kashmir and is now seeking mandate from Sonawar in Srinagar and Beerwah in central Kashmir.
"I have been brought up in Sonawar and have a natural association with all of you on that count. I have worked in Ganderbal with utmost sincerity and passion and now that we have groomed a local leader for Ganderbal, we have empowered him to continue serving the people of Ganderbal and continue the good work of the previous six years. Regardless of where I contest from, I will personally focus on the development of every single constituency in the state", the chief minister said
He said that God has bestowed Sonawar with unparalleled scenic beauty and the constituency hence forms one of the mainstays of tourism in the state. "There is an enormous untapped potential in Sonawar that I plan to focus on and develop on global tourism standards in order to generate thousands of locally-supported jobs in the area.
He further said, "Our focus will be two-pronged -- on one hand, we will continue our focus on reducing the unemployment by giving a boost to tourism in Sonawar, especially in new areas that are not on the tourism map as of now, and on the other, we will create more facilities and avenues in public infrastructure at par with the best tourism destinations in the world. When these two efforts come together, we will see unprecedented economic growth in the areas".
The NC working president said that his vision for Sonawar, like his holistic vision for the entire state, is based on the empowerment of the youth. "Our talented youth will be the propelling force behind all our dreams of development and progress. I assure the youth that I will work hand-in-hand with them to realise our common dreams of dignity, self-sustainability and prosperity", he added.
On this occasion, NC youth activists and political workers pledged their support to the CM's vision and said that they were enthusiastic about his candidature from Sonawar. Various senior party leaders, legislators and youth leaders spoke on this occasion and welcomed Abdullah's decision to contest the elections from Sonawar.
