However External Affairs minister Natwar Singh has made clear that India wants "closest" relations with Pakistan, based on "reciprocity and realism",

Singh also stated that when he meets his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri in August he would ask when Islamabad plans to stop its "terrorism programme".

He suggested that India was willing to discuss with Pakistan, its views on Kashmir, and also suggested that, "when I meet Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri in August, I will ask them when they plan to stop their terrorism programme".

In a recent 'India Today' interview, he said that, India is willing to consider gas pipeline from Iran via Pakistan if Islamabad provided international security guarantees. (Previously, India has reservations fearing that Pakistan could disrupt supplies in the event of any major problems in Indo-Pak ties).
