Lauding the role of Sainik schools in providing good officers to the Indian army, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today stressed the need for providing adequate facilities in these schools.

Speaking at a felicitation function organised here for honouring 16 cadres of Sainik School, Kunjpura in Karnal, who have cleared the UPSC written examination as well as Services Selection Board interviews for joining NDA, Hooda said these schools play a significant role in providing good officers to the Indian Army.

He said it was a matter of pride that every tenth soldier in the Indian army was from Haryana while the state comprises only two per cent population of the country. Hooda said there were only five Sainik schools at the inception of the school at Kunjpura in 1961 and now the number of Sainik schools in the country has increased to 20.

The school since its inception had initiated more than 450 of its students to NDA and an equal number to other Defence Services Academics. Hooda gave a letter of appreciation to the 16 cadets.
