Members of the organisation and children associated with it staged a demonstration in front of Gandhi statue and requested the district magistrate to take adequate steps to stop felling of green trees.

An appeal was made to the masses by the organisation to boycott those ‘Holika dahan’ places where green trees were used.

President of the Save Childhood Organisation Kamal Kant Tewari stated that out of five trees planted, only two grew up.

“In Kanpur alone, about 2000 to 2500 trees are felled for Holi and both district administration and police personnel remain mute spectators,” Tewari said.

Expressing concern over the excessive felling of green trees, Tewari requested the district magistrate to take necessary steps to stop this menace.

Senior member of the Gayatri Parivar Girish Awasthi said owing to excessive felling of green trees, the city was rapidly losing its green cover.

“Kanpur already has the dubious distinction of being among the most polluted cities of the country,” pointed out Awasthi.
