Dr Srivastava was delivering the valedictory address of the 10-day workshop on the ‘Use, Calibration, Precaution and Maintenance of Sprayers for Pesticides’ at Kallipur on Tuesday evening.

He warned farmers against the incorrect use of such chemicals and suggested them to use these pesticides cautiously, as it could get absorbed in the human body through the skin and inhaling it could lead to nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, breathing problems and restlessness.

“To avoid this, farmers should immediately remove their clothes and wash thrice with soap-water,” he suggested. The eyes should be washed with saline water, he said. “If taken orally, vomiting should be induced at the site or in the hospital,” he added.

The programme concluded with technical sessions under the guidance of Associate Professor at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Amitabh Kar.

Chief scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dr RA Singh was also present on the occasion.
