The police described Santan Yadav as a hardcore criminal and key member of Raju Yadav gang, but were unable to roll out a single criminal case against him.

The three cases in which Santan Yadav was shown as wanted in, were registered separately just 12 to 24 hours before he was gunned down.

Meanwhile, several SP leaders accused the cops of killing an innocent boy. Party MLA from Ghatampur, Rakesh Sachan, led hundreds of protestors this morning to the mortuary and vowed not to let Santan’s blood go in waste. “He was with his cattle when the cops engaged in a gun battle with dacoits, shot him.

It may have been a case of mistaken identity but it is shocking that they are projecting him as a criminal now,” Vijay Singh, Yadav’s brother told Hinsustan Times.

Singh, who himself is member of the block development council in Jehangirabad, has decided to take up the incident with the National Human Rights Commission and the court.

“The police must accept its mistake, clear his name or be ready to pay the price,” he said.

Santan was found dead after the prolonged encounter with the Raju Yadav gang.

The police that faced Raju gang thrice since Sunday night, registered three cases separately. And to make the encounter stories more genuine, Santan was shown as a gang member who was killed. The cops are at pains in finding out a single and genuine criminal case lodged against Santan anywhere in Kanpur or beyond.

Even this morning, the cops faced an infuriated crowd at the mortuary while taking away the body for cremation in a clandestine way.

MLA Rakesh Sachan had heated arguments with SP (rural) Ratan Shrivastava.
The police relented only after senior police authorities ordered for return of the body when it was about to be dumped. The body, wrapped in a polythene sheet, was handed over Vijay at Bhairon Ghat. The body was later cremated with in the traditional way by the family members.

Sachan, when contacted, said the team involved in the encounter, was tampering with key evidences and for a impartial inquiry the SHO and others should be removed at the earliest.
