The terrorists' bid to trigger blast was foiled early on Monday morning as security personnel, who were on a routine sanitisation operation, recovered the IED packed in a cooker beneath the Doda-Dessa road at Akbarabad, they said.

Traffic was stopped on the road and the pressure cooker containing the five kg IED was defused, they said adding that a major plan of the militants to trigger blast and target security forces was foiled.

Meanwhile, thousands of police and paramilitary personnel including sharp shooters have been deployed in the state in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations following reports of possible terrorist strikes during the event.
