Three killed in Manipur

A militant and a civilian were killed during a gunbattle between two outfits, (USRA) and (KNF-P) at Yairipok in Thoubal district.

Three persons, including two militants, were killed in separate militancy-related incidents in Manipur, official sources said on Monday.

A militant and a civilian were killed during a gunbattle between two outfits, United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA) and Kuki National Front-President (KNF-P) at Yairipok in Thoubal district on Sunday.

The shootout started while militants of both factions were extorting money from trucks passing through the area.

Both USRA and KNF-P militants were forcibly collecting Rs 3000 from each truck at two nearby places. Hearing that USRA militants were extorting money, KNF-P ultras attacked the USRA men.

The militant an the civilian were identified as Malsawm Vaiphei (30) and M Tomba respectively, the sources said.

In another incident on Sunday, an unidentified militant was killed by personnel of 15th Jammu and Kashmir light infantry at Ningthoukhong Kha-Khunou area in Bishenpur district, the sources said.

One 9mm pistol with four bullets was found from the spot, about 45 Kms south of here.
