The last rites of Jaffer Mashadi, Moinuddin Beig and Mohd Ahmad Ali, all hailing from Andhra Pradesh, were performed in the holy town of Karbala, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed told.

The funeral was performed after their relatives gave a nod for their burial in Karbala.

Mashadi of Vishakhapatnam and Beig and Mohammad Ahmad Ali (both from Hyderabad) were part of a group of 40 Indians and Pakistanis on their way to Karbala for the pilgrimage after entering Iraq through Syria.

The group, comprising 14 Indians and 26 Pakistanis, was intercepted at Rutba in Iraq on August 31 by some armed men. The 14 male members—three Indians and 11 Pakistanis—of the group were segregated and later shot dead.
