US chamber awards Indian business head

Sanjiv Mehta has been awarded with the Business Executive of the Year 2003 by American Chamber of Commerce in Dhaka.

Chairman and Managing Director of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, Sanjiv Mehta, has been awarded with the Business Executive of the Year 2003 by American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Dhaka.

AmCham handed over the award to Mehta, an Indian national living in the country since 1978, at a glittering function on Tuesday.

"Under his leadership, Unilever Bangladesh has received the coveted Uniliver's 'Sustained Innovation Performer' award for four consecutive years. This is a feat accomplished by only a handful of Unilever companies across the globe," the AmCham said while awarding Mehta, who was born in Punjab and brought up in Mumbai.

"Unilever Bangladesh has been transformed into a corporate icon in Bangladesh under his leadership," it said.

"Unilever has seen double digit growth rate for the last six consecutive years which is almost six times Bangladesh's GDP growth. This proves companies in the country have potential for growth," Mehta said.
