The vigil has been stepped up with a view to check smuggling, transaction of fake currency notes and infiltration of the Maoist activists into Indian territory, after restoration of democracy in Nepal.

IG special cell KND Dwivedi made an on-the-spot inspection of the Indo-Nepal border and organised a series of meetings with Shasastra Seema Bal (SSB) officials. They discussed the current political situation in Nepal and directed the subordinate officials to step up vigil and patrolling exercise.

Sources claimed that Dwivedi had directed the intelligence officials of the State and Union governments to be watchful round the clock. He also directed the officials to keep the Ministry of Home Affairs abreast with the developments taking place on the Indo-Nepal border.

According to sources, the SSB officials were directed to increase number of check posts. Dwivedi also visited the Sonauli border and discussed the security system with the officials posted there. He hinted that an integrated check post would be set up at Sonauli border. Dwivedi also directed the officials to watch the activities of Sino-Nepal Association.

Sources further claimed that proclamation of the King of Nepal King Gyanendra to grant amnesty to the Maoist activists has caused worries to intelligence agencies and following the directive of Ministry of Home Affair, Dwivedi visited the Indo-Nepal border. He directed the subordinate officials to intensify the patrolling at night and to keep an eye on the activities of unknown peoples.

He has also hinted that due the friendship of Nepal and China, the Chinese tourists’ visit to Nepal might increase. Recently, director general of SSB Tilak Kak admitted that sensitivity of Indo-Nepal border increased.

Besides, seizure of five quintal explosive, fake currency notes of around Rs 67,000 and heroin worth Rs 80 lakh in one year by SSB jawans was another point of the concern for the intelligence agencies.
