WITH THE 10+2 ISC results out, the hunt for admissions to the colleges begins in the State Capital at a fever pitch .

It will grow more intense after Class XII UP Board and CBSE results are declared.
But, the question is –do city colleges have enough seats to take the 10 + 2 rush? Whatever, the students, parents and friends are busy discussing which subjects and college to choose.

HT Lucknow Live has come out with college-wise details of the seats available and their respective USPs.

Lucknow University offers a maximum number of subject combinations in the Arts faculty, quality teachers in the Science and Commerce faculties. LU also offers LLB 5 years (Hons) degree course. There are 1,700 regular and about 200 paid seats in Arts faculty, 450 regular and 100 paid seats in Commerce, 250 regular seats and 20 paid seats in B Sc (Bio) and 530 seats in B Sc (Maths) including 80 paid seats.

There are over 30 subjects for the candidates seeking admission to Arts stream, which is a maximum. Mode of teaching is both English and Hindi. The only drawback with LU is that student leaders paralyse teaching every now and then.

During students’ union poll, teaching comes to a stand still for a month or so.

Isabella Thobourn College and Avadh Girls Degree College (AGDC) are two popular English medium colleges for the girl students. IT College has 380 seats in BA and 200 seats in B Sc. Besides it offers paid seats in both the streams. It also offers Bachelor’s in Library Science (B Li Sc).

However, IT College does not have a Commerce faculty. AGDC has 400 regular seats in Arts and 160 self-financing seats in the Commerce faculty. Both these colleges maintain a good academic atmosphere and lay emphasis on extra-curricular activities.

Girls also have an option. They can try their luck at Navyug and Mahila College, which hold important position in the list of affiliated degree colleges. Navyug has 700 seats in BA, 190 seats in B Sc and 80 paid seats in B Com. While Mahila College has 900 regular, 250 paid seats in BA, 480 regular, 120 paid seats in B Sc, 160 regular, 60 paid seats in B Com. Karamat Girls College has 1075 seats in BA and 180 paid seats in B Sc.

Besides, it offers 160 paid seats in B Sc (Bio) and 140 paid seats in B Sc (Maths). Forms are available in these two colleges.

The admission process for different UG courses of Jai Narain Degree College (KKC) has commenced from Wednesday. The college has 800 seats in BA, 800 seats in B Sc, 800 seats in B Com. Next to this college is BSNV (KKV College) which has 700 seats for BA and B Sc each.

Besides, UG courses many of these colleges also offer PG, B Ed, BPEd and LLB courses. There are about 30 other affiliated degree colleges of LU, where they may seek admission in different UG courses. But most of them have self-financing seats as a result student will have to pay more fees.
