POLITICS OF confrontation is in the air as Congress and the BJP are ranging themselves against each other following allegations by the Congress that BJP divisional organising secretary Arvind Menon was involved in the murder of Meherban Singh, who was murdered by his son Vijendra Singh Bhati, alias Shravan. Shravan used to work at the BJP office, and is said to be close to Menon.

Today, both the Youth Congress and the Congress party held separate demonstrations demanding action against Menon. The Youth Congress led by City Youth Congress president Devendra Singh Yadav had first threatened to hold demonstration at the BJP office itself in the morning.

Sensing trouble, police were present in full force at the BJP party office at Jaora Compound, and so were the BJP workers, who had assembled there for their own rally. As the agitated BJP workers and exuberant Youth Congress workers came face to face, senior police officers requested Yadav to hold the demonstration elsewhere to avoid a street battle, and Yadav acceded to the request.

Subsequently, Youth Congress workers, wearing black bands, staged a dharna at the Regal crossing demanding that Menon be made an accused in the murder case, and arrested.

Then they went to the SP office and held a demonstration shouting slogans against Menon, the BJP and also the police. They gave two memorandums, one to the SP and another in the name of the Governor. In the memorandum the Youth Congress said that if cases are not registered against Menon under Section 30234 of IPC then they would intensify their agitation.

In the next stage, the Youth Congress has threatened that they would demonstrate in front of the BJP office and in the third stage they would burn effigies of Menon at main squares of the City. In the fourth stage they plan to start a signature campaign and in the fifth stage they would hold block level demonstrations.

The Congress party demonstration, also at the SP office was a more subdued affair. In their memorandum to the SP they demanded an impartial inquiry into the murder and arrest of BJP leaders responsible for destroying evidence of the murder. They also charged the police of working under pressure from the RSS, BJP and other allied organisations.

Congress allegations
1 Meherban Singh was murdered at BJP office by son Shravan

2 Arvind Menon’s vehicle used to dispose body.

Vehicle was seized on suspicion by police while returning after dumping body, but BJP leaders used influence to get vehicle and Shravan released

Menon hid Shravan for three days in party office

3 BJP put pressure on police to change murder story and only arrest Shravan, letting Menon go scot-free

BJP stand

1 Refutes all the charges of Congress party

2 Congress has no issues that is why the party is raking up false and baseless issues

l BJP office is a temple and its secretary is just like a saint
