I think there is an important distinction between buying something that feels current and buying something purely because everyone is wearing it.
I would be cautious with a piece if:
• I can only style it one way
• It requires several new purchases to make it work
• I already own something that performs the same function
• I cannot imagine wearing it beyond the current season
• I like it mainly because I keep seeing it online
That last one is particularly easy to fall into.
Seeing something repeatedly can make it feel essential, even when it has very little place in your actual wardrobe.
I do not think building a capsule wardrobe means dressing in the same five neutral outfits forever. For me, it is about making smarter purchases.
A structured handbag, comfortable loafers, a versatile kurta set, dark straight-leg denim and a useful belt can all feel current without forcing you to follow every microtrend. But even more importantly, I would not buy all five just because they appear on a list.
Start with the gap in your own wardrobe.
If you already have excellent jeans, skip the denim. If your handbag collection is sorted, invest elsewhere. If you never wear loafers, they do not suddenly become a good purchase because they are fashionable.
