A relationship takes a lot of work from both ends to make it successful. A successful relationship doesn’t necessarily mean the one that stretches over a long time period, but the one where the individuals involved are made to feel safe and happy. Every person brings their own trauma, ambitions, dreams and aspirations to the relationship. While it is important that love should exist between the people, it should also be a safe space to grow individually and also together. In order to make a healthy relationship, there are a few affirmations that we should keep in mind at all times. Addressing this, Psychotherapist Emily H sanders wrote, "We can work on our healing and growth individually, but our growth is actually challenged and practiced in our relationships with others. This being said, healthier relationshipping takes time and effort."

Emily further noted down the affirmations that we should keep in mind:

One-sided relationship: Out of fear, or loneliness or sometimes guilt, we choose to be in a one-sided relationship. This can further emotionally drain us and cause more emotional damage than we can imagine.

Clarity: What we are seeking in a relationship and what the other person is seeking – clarity on this is very important to take a relationship forward.

Character, values: in the long run, physical appearance takes a backseat and it is the person's character and set of values that we fall in love with.

Word: When a person states that they are not interested or ready to be in a relationship, we must take their word seriously and stop trying hard to convince them otherwise.

Behavior: When a person behaves in a certain way repeatedly, we should not complain about it. Rather, we must know that it reflects their internal world.

Help: Often we feel asking for help makes us weak. But that is not true. It makes us allow people to meet us at the emotional stage where we are.

Align: It is important to be with people whose words and actions align.
