While it is often advised against starting new ventures during the eclipse, the period after it is considered a meaningful time to focus on a fresh start.

A solar eclipse is a significant celestial event that has held spiritual and astrological importance across cultures for centuries. In Vedic astrology, a solar eclipse, or Surya Grahan, is associated with the Sun, which represents vitality and identity, being temporarily obscured by the Moon, which is linked to the mind and emotions.

While traditional beliefs often advise against starting new ventures during the eclipse itself, the period after the eclipse is considered a meaningful time to reflect on your intentions and focus on a fresh start.

Dr Jai Madaan, spiritual mentor and Vastu consultant, recommends these seven rituals to help you reset your energy and approach the post-eclipse period with greater intention.

1. Cleanse your space first

Before doing anything else, cleanse your home using sage, camphor or a simple ghee diya. According to traditional spiritual beliefs, eclipses can stir stagnant energy, so cleansing your physical surroundings can help with creating a sense of clarity and calm.

2. Practice silent meditation

Once the eclipse has passed, sit quietly for at least 15 minutes and focus on your breathing. Rather than immediately turning to active mantra chanting, use this time for stillness and inward reflection. Allow your thoughts to settle without trying to force a particular outcome.

3. Take a purifying bath

After the eclipse ends, consider taking a cleansing bath. Traditionally, adding a small amount of Ganga jal or rock salt to the water is believed to help remove accumulated negativity and restore energetic balance.

4. Donate with intention

Charity is considered an important practice in many spiritual traditions. After an eclipse, you can donate food, clothing or money to someone in need. The act is traditionally believed to help channel the intense energy associated with the eclipse toward positive karma and a sense of service.

5. Write down your intentions

Once the Sun is fully visible again, take a few quiet moments to write down what you want to release and what you hope to manifest. This can help you become more specific about your priorities and give you a clearer sense of direction as you enter a new phase.

6. Chant after the eclipse ends

Once the eclipse has passed, you can chant the Gayatri Mantra or your personal Ishta Mantra if it is part of your spiritual practice. Traditionally, chanting is believed to help you reconnect with the returning solar energy and create a sense of inner alignment.

7. Reconnect with nature

Step outside and spend some time in natural surroundings. Feel the sunlight on your skin, take a few deep breaths and slow down. From a spiritual perspective, this simple practice can help you feel grounded and mark the beginning of a new cycle.

An eclipse does not have to be something you fear. For those who follow spiritual or astrological traditions, it can instead be viewed as a time to pause, reflect and become more mindful about what you want to carry forward.
