The Saki Naka police on Friday arrested a 28-year-old garment businessman for allegedly abetting his wife’s suicide.

According to the police, Sokalram Purohit got married to Manidevi, 26, in 2013. On Wednesday, Manidevi had committed suicide by hanging herself in her residence at Maratha Sahakar Nivas in Mohili village, Saki Naka. Sokalram rushed Manidevi to Shatabdi Hospital, where she was declared dead. A post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to her family. As per Manidevi’s brother, Sokalram would torture Manidevi mentally and physically because she could not conceive, leading her to take the extreme step.
