Traffic troubles ahead as Mumbai-Pune expressway to be shut for two hours on Thursday

Travelling to Pune? Be prepared for traffic trouble as the Pune-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be shut from noon to 2pm on Thursday. Vehicles going towards Pune from Mumbai will be diverted via the old Mumbai-Pune highway.

“The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is erecting an overhead structure (gantry) on the highway. We will put up signboards and video messages for the convenience of motorists,” said Vijay Patil, superintendent of police of state highway traffic.
“Cars and passenger vehicles will be diverted at Shedung to the old Mumbai-Pune highway. They will be able to take the expressway again at Khopoli. Heavy vehicles will be stopped on the roadsides during the block. We will deploy additional manpower to guide motorists. We urge them to cooperate.”
MSRDC engineers said this is the first of the 13 gantries that will be erected gradually on the 94-km expressway.
