Shaikh, who was expected in court that day to depose against alleged LeT operatives Sabahuddin and Fahim Ansari, did not turn up.

Police said Shaikh had returned to his Goregaon home late the earlier day and left home early on August 28 – he went missing after telling his wife he was going to the court. Police said his wife could not contact him as he had left his cellphone in his house.

She then filed a missing person complaint at Goregaon police station. A day later, Crime Branch officers traced him to a friend’s house where he had gone with his mother.

He was brought before the court on August 31 for cross-examination.

During his deposition as a prosecution witness, he highlighted the role of Sabahuddin and Ansari in the 26/11 attacks conspiracy.
