Dhanraj Yadav, 23, was arrested on Thursday night on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Police inspector Pramod Koparde of Matunga police station said: “We arrested Yadav after we took the statements of the 32 labourers working in the building. Yadav has been sent to judicial custody.”

“Yadav was the site supervisor and it was his job to ensure the safety of the service lift that was being used during the time the building construction going on. He should have dismantled the lift after the work was completed. The service lift was

still being used by labourers who were working at the flats of residents who had just moved in.”

The police had earlier sent letters to the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority in order to find out who was responsible for the mishap.

The police had earlier stated that their investigations were suffering as the lift department and the PWD kept putting the blame on each other.

On Friday, the Sewri fast-track court extended the interim protection granted to the four directors of the firm that built the La Sonarisa building.
