“Santosh was very excited from the day he was nominated for the scholarship,” said Sameera Orke, an LIC staff member. “The entire floor here is disappointed.”
College authorities, on their part, have written to the consulate, requesting them to reconsider Shetty’s case. “We have also approached NYU Stern, seeking their help to get his visa accepted,” said Dr Rajendra Shinde, director, Council of International Programmes, St Xavier’s College.
“I haven’t informed my parents yet, in the hope that the authorities at the consulate will change their minds and grant me a visa,” Shetty said.
