Shaan launched his last album, Tishnagi, in 2006. And now, almost five years later, the singer has signed a deal with a yet-to-be-launched company and is in the process of readying his brand new venture. "The company is going to launch in India in December. Even if I release a single, it has to be done across platforms," says the artiste, who enjoys singing his own compositions. "The songs are almost ready. I’m just breaking some of them down and deciding. It has been some time; I recorded my last album in 2005," he adds.

Ask him if he hopes to give pop music some stray hope of resurgence with this album and he says, "It’s an individual effort, and I don’t see how that’s going to bring it back. You need dedicated music channels and artistes who are also performers — who have personalities. So just posting music online or making it free will not help pop pick up in India." The singer is currently looking forward to the Fever tribute series for Kishore Kumar.

ShaanHe will be seen paying homage to the legendary singer-performer in the city tomorrow, followed by a performance in Bangalore. "We met with a lot of success in Delhi and I’m prepared for others now," he says, adding that the kind of singing Kishore’s songs require is a lot more fun as compared to all the "screaming" he does otherwise. "The range and scale is so conducive for live singing that I can sing for five to six hours at a stretch. It feels so much easier."

Shaan has picked some of Kishore’s popular music from the ’70s and ’80s to perform at the city event. "I have been biased towards my personal choice, but I’ve also kept it balanced. The younger audience relates to the retro era a lot more than the music from times before that," says the singer.
