The incident occurred around 10pm in Shahberi village of Bisrakh when a five-storey building collapsed on an adjacent under-construction building, officials said.

Four National Disaster Response Force teams and a dog squad are at the spot. Rescue operations are underway but chances of finding survivors are slim, NDRF Commandant PK Srivastava told news agency ANI.

“It is feared that 20-25 people might be trapped inside the debris of the two building,” a senior police official had said.

Both the buildings are reported to be five storeys high, police said.

A family had recently moved to the newly constructed building, according to unconfirmed reports.

Officials said they were also investigating if some labourers were living in the under construction building.

Taking cognisance of the incident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath instructed top state officials to ensure speedy rescue and relief operation

Rescue teams have swung into action to evacuate people from nearby buildings. The debris is being cleared to find out if anyone was trapped inside.

“We have roped in the NDRF and the police along with the health and fire department. Our priority is to rescue the people who are trapped inside,” Greater Noida district magistrate BN Singh said, adding that “an inquiry will be conducted.”

The 8th Battalion of The National Disaster Relief Force was brought in from Ghaziabad to assist in the rescue operations.
