The Indian women’s hockey team lost their final Pool B game of the Hockey World League Semi-Finals 0-3 to Argentina in Johannesburg on Sunday.
World No.3 Argentina led early in the game thanks to Roccio Sanchez’s second minute goal. The lead was doubled in the 14th minute when Maria Grannato fired home just before the end of the first quarter.
Argentina edged further ahead in the second quarter with Noel Barrionuevo going low past Indian goalkeeper Savita in the 25th minute.
That was the end as far as the goal scoring was concerned in a match which was dominated by Argentina, who ended up with 60 percent of possession. The Argentines also had nine penalty corners to India’s solitary one.
This makes it two consecutive losses for India who started off with a 0-0 draw against South Africa and a 1-0 win against Chile. India lost their third match 1-4 to the United States of America.
Despite these two losses, India have qualified for the quarter-finals, finishing fourth out of five teams in Pool B. They will face England in a last eight clash on Tuesday.
