Photos: Nearly 25,000 new Covid-19 cases take India’s tally past 7.6 lakh

India’s Covid-19 case count stands at 7.69 lakh as of July 9, after a record surge of 24,879 cases recorded in the last 24 hours. Over 21,000 lives have also been lost to the disease since it entered the country. Against this backdrop, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardshan announced at a review of the national Covid-19 situation by a high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) that despite the second highest population on the planet, the country’s cases per million stand at 538. The global average is 1,453.
